Corrosion & Fouling Management

Corrosion & Fouling Management

OBJECTIVES

  • Understanding its Mechanism.
  • Knowing how to reduce cost, by studying the corrosion economics.
  • Knowing how to apply the suitable protective methods.
  • Knowing how to test and monitor for corrosion, by selecting the proper corrosion test method.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Anyone who needs to be able to recognize corrosion, understand its devastating potential, and how to properly manage it by knowing how to apply the proper protective method and the proper testing or monitoring technique especially as it relates to his area of responsibility. This includes, Engineers, Technicians, Managers, Supervisors, Salespersons, Inspector, Lab trainers and anyone needs a basic understanding of corrosion and cathodic protection.

COURSE OUTLINE

DAY ONE

Corrosion Management and Basic Corrosion Principles.

  • What is Corrosion Management, Mechanism and Classification of Corrosion, Cost of Corrosion, Prediction of corrosion, Corrosion Control Methods, Corrosion rate and its measurements?

DAY TWO

Eight Forms of Corrosion.

  • General (Uniform), Bi-metal (Galvanic), Intergranular, Crevice, Pitting, De-alloying, Erosion-corrosion and Cavitation, and Environmentally Induced Cracking (Stress Corrosion Cracking, Hydrogen Cracking, and Corrosion Fatigue).

DAY THREE

Corrosion and Fouling in Water.

  • Corosivity of water, Effect of dissolved Oxygen, Effect of temperature, Effect of pH, Effect of Solid particles, and Effect of water hardness.

DAY FOUR

Corrosion and Fouling due to Bacteria (MIC).

  • What is MIC, Mechanism of MIC, Industrial Environment causing MIC, Prevention of MIC, Micro-organisms associated with MIC (Sulfur/Sulfide oxidizing Bacteria, Fe/Mn Oxidizing Bacteria, Aerobic slime formers, Organic acid producing bacteria, Acid producing fungi, and Methane producers), MIC of Carbon Steel (Effect of Aerobic and An-aerobic Bacteria), Formation of Slime, Effect of Macro-fouling Organisms, MIC of Stainless Steels.

DAY FIVE
